Actions

KMOP in cooperation with ESIEM-Th (Journalists’ Union of Macedonia and Thrace Daily Newspapers) analysed the relevant Greek and international literature in order to record the framework, highlight the educational needs of the target groups and evaluate the existing educational and bibliographical material. The research is the basis of the training material that is used for the capacity building actions.
KMOP, with the involvement of ESIEM-Th (Journalists’ Union of Macedonia and Thrace Daily Newspapers), developed a curriculum for civil servants, mental health professionals, media professionals (and media students), members of the school community (teachers, parents/guardians, students, school administrators). The curriculum was tailored to the specific needs of each target group.
The training programme of the “DIDO” project is also available in an e-learning format, in order to ensure uninterrupted access to the training activities for all interested parties. In addition to the project website, the training programmes are also available on the KMOP’s training platform, COEUS.
As part of the training for civil servants, two five-hour seminars will be held for 50 civil servants on mental health issues, the rights of recipients of mental health services, ways and means of protecting and defending them. In addition, the participants of the seminars will be trained in ways to ensure a welcoming and supportive environment in the services where they serve, as well as to record and report incidents of abuse of the rights of those receiving mental health services.
During these training activities, two five-hour seminars will be held for 60 mental health professionals on how to address the challenges posed by the coronavirus crisis in the provision of mental health services and the impact of the crisis on mental health service recipients, particularly in terms of their access to services and rights. In addition, participants in the seminars will have the opportunity to be trained in ways of recording and reporting incidents of abuse of the rights of recipients of mental health services and their families.
100 media professionals, as well as media students will participate in the training activities on mental health issues and the rights of recipients of mental health services. Additionally, they will be trained on the means and ways of recording, highlighting and reporting cases of violation of the rights of recipients of mental health services, as well as informing and raising public awareness on the respective issues.
The aim of the training activities for members of the school community is to contribute to the formation of responsible citizens, who will deal with mental illness and mental health issues without stigma and who will uphold and respect the rights and dignity of recipients of mental health services. As part of this action, training seminars will be held for 50 members of the school community (15 teachers, 10 parents and guardians, 15 students and 10 school administrators).
This action aims to encourage interaction, communication and support among the participants of the project, to exchange good practices and to encourage the development of joint initiatives and actions. To this end, peer support and Facebook discussion groups will be set up.
Three one-day consultation events will be held, with at least 15 participants each, aiming to develop bridges of communication and encourage cooperation between government agencies, civil society and media on issues related to the protection and promotion of the rights of recipients of mental health services.
The policy briefs to be produced by the ESIEM-Th (Journalists’ Union of Macedonia and Thrace Daily Newspapers), with the participation of KMOP, will present the conclusions, ideas and findings that will have emerged from the consultation events and other project activities and will aim to draw the attention of the relevant stakeholders to the major issue of protecting the rights of recipients of mental health services.
With this campaign, KMOP and ESIEM-Th (Journalists’ Union of Macedonia and Thrace Daily Newspapers) aim to inform and raise public awareness on the issue of protecting the rights of recipients of mental health services.
